Key Responsibilities
Sales & Market Share Growth:
- Issue and follow up on quotations to drive sales.
- Manage the quoting process and control special orders.
- Ensure estimations and cutting lists are accurate and completed within agreed timeframes.
- Conduct competitor analysis to maintain store competitiveness.
- Minimize wastage and customer complaints through accurate machine calibration and precise interpretation of cutting lists.
- Oversee daily cleaning and preventative maintenance of machinery.
- Promote Loyalty Programmes, including VIC and Charge Card customers.
- Achieve store market share growth in line with company benchmarks.
- Develop proactive action plans to protect market share when competitors emerge.
Customer Service:
- Implement and monitor the customer service strategy.
- Ensure reliable and prompt customer delivery services.
- Grow and maintain the customer and VIC client base.
- Recommend range improvements to meet market demands.
- Act on customer survey feedback by implementing action plans.
- Ensure effective employee scheduling to provide exceptional customer service.
Deliveries:
- Manage an efficient delivery service, ensuring correct rates are charged.
- Ensure deliveries are dispatched within the required time limits.
- Communicate any delayed deliveries to customers and make appropriate, agreed-upon arrangements.
Asset Control:
- Stock: Order stock, manage and control shrinkage, conduct wall-to-wall stock-takes, and manage damaged, obsolete, and slow-moving stock. Analyze and implement changes to security requirements.
- Cash: Manage debtors, petty cash, daily banking, shorts and overs, and credit cards.
- Fixed Assets: Ensure maintenance and protection of racking, displays, signage (internal & external), forklifts, generators, cutting and edge machinery, IT equipment, telephone systems, the safe/vault, and all items listed on the Asset Register.
Operations & Safety:
- Manage the store according to the Financial Model, benchmarks, and budgets to ensure profitability.
- Monitor adherence to company standard compliance in-store.
- Implement and maintain controls and disciplines, including corrective action plans (PIP) where necessary.
- Ensure quality control, minimizing wastage through effective processes in cutting, edging, and calibration.
- Perform accurate estimating calculations according to customer specifications, providing precise estimates and picking/cutting lists.
- Manage safety aspects in line with local legislation (OHSA) and/or neighbouring countries.
- Ensure safety checklists are complete, appoint safety and first aid representatives, report incidents, take immediate action on non-compliance, and record all OHASA incidents.
- Ensure all forklift operators have valid licenses and all workshop staff are signed off as compliant.
- Maintain safe working conditions for all safety equipment.
Human Resource Management:
- Recruit and induct all employees.
- Ensure training and development, including certification and succession/back-up plans for the store.
- Manage manpower requirements in line with company benchmarks.
- Foster open communication and relations with the Store Employee Forum.
- Manage employee relations and performance management processes.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar managerial position.
- Grade 12 qualification.
- At least 3 years of related retail/wholesale management experience, OR 5 years of related retail/wholesale experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer literacy.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Well-developed business acumen.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Strong administrative skills.
- Own transport and cell phone.
- Sound knowledge of Health and Safety aspects in line with OHSA and/or neighbouring countries’ legislation.
- Strong Human Resources Management skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Experience in carpentry products and cutting & edging would be an advantage.
