Key Responsibilities
As an Assistant Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting the Store Manager across various operational areas:
Strategic Management
- Assist in developing, implementing, and managing a Store Business Plan that aligns with the overall company strategy.
Market Share Growth and Protection
- Support efforts to achieve market share growth and sales targets within the store.
- Promote customer loyalty programs and manage advertising material distribution for maximum impact.
- Develop proactive action plans to protect market share, especially in response to competitor activity.
Customer Service Excellence
- Contribute to the implementation and monitoring of the customer service strategy.
- Maintain high customer audit scores and ensure a reliable customer delivery service.
- Grow and maintain the VIC client base and achieve transaction budgets.
- Recommend range improvements based on market needs and address customer survey feedback.
Asset Control: Stock
- Assist in managing and controlling shrinkage within the store.
- Oversee stock movement, cycle counts, and wall-to-wall stock takes.
- Manage customer returns, goods inwards, and implement security measures.
Asset Control: Cash
- Manage debtors and returned cheques.
- Oversee petty cash, daily banking, and reconciliation of shorts and overs.
- Process cheques and credit card transactions.
Asset Control: Fixed Assets
- Ensure the maintenance and protection of racking, displays, signage, and IT equipment.
- Oversee the upkeep of forklifts, generators, and the store safe.
Human Resource Management
- Support the recruitment, induction, and training & development of store employees.
- Contribute to succession planning and manage manpower requirements in line with company benchmarks.
- Facilitate open communication with the Store Employee Committee and manage employee relations.
Store Safety (OHSA) Standards
- Manage safety aspects in compliance with local legislation (OHSA).
- Ensure completion of safety checklists, appointment of safety representatives, and incident reporting.
- Maintain accurate records of all incidents.
Store Trading Standards
- Uphold high housekeeping, merchandising, and planogram standards.
- Maintain the yard and parking areas.
Profitability
- Assist in achieving operating income budgets and managing the store according to financial models and benchmarks.
CB Way Compliance
- Support adherence to company standards and internal audit requirements.
- Implement and maintain controls and disciplines, including corrective action plans.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- A minimum of 2 years of retail management experience.
- A valid driver’s license.
- A valid South African ID or work permit.
- Strong accounting and administrative skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer literacy.
- Demonstrated leadership and human resource management skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Must have own reliable transport and a cell phone.
- Sound knowledge of Health and Safety legislation (OHSA) and relevant neighbouring country legislation.
