Job Overview
The Artisan Gr1 Boilermaker is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining welding, soldering, brazing, and heat-treatment equipment to ensure the integrity of metal products and assemblies. This role provides critical support for plant infrastructure and operational reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain welding, brazing, soldering, and heat-treatment machinery
- Apply plant maintenance documentation and work planning systems effectively
- Demonstrate competence in assigned plant, mine, or equipment areas
- Comply with Safety Management Systems (IMS, MBO) and apply emergency procedures
- Conduct hazard identification and task risk assessments
- Participate in daily morning meetings to discuss work assignments
- Provide progress feedback to supervisors and contribute to root cause analyses
- Maintain high housekeeping standards and follow waste disposal procedures
- Share knowledge and mentor junior artisans and learners
- Participate in quarterly performance appraisals and implement development plans
- Assist in developing work instructions to improve team competency
- Take leadership in team tasks and, when appropriate, act as group leader
- Contribute to overall maintenance strategy and operational improvements
- Conduct IMS inspections to enhance plant sustainability
- Engage in PDAs and RCAs to maintain safety and plant stability
- Ensure accurate history feedback for renewals, upgrades, and critical spare parts
- Provide input during toolbox talks to strengthen safety awareness
Minimum Requirements
- National Senior Certificate / N3
- Occupational Trade Qualification / Certificate in Boilermaking
- First Aid Certificate
- Valid driver’s license
- Minimum 4 years’ relevant experience in boilermaking or related trades
