Job Overview

The Chemical Plant Operator (CPO) is responsible for overseeing maintenance and repair activities within a specific production process. This role involves operating control systems, resolving complex technical issues, and ensuring the safe and efficient running of plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage maintenance and repair tasks within the production line
  • Operate and monitor control panels to ensure optimal plant performance
  • Provide consistent feedback to supervisors regarding progress and operational challenges
  • Participate in risk assessments to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards and follow waste management procedures
  • Work independently while contributing effectively to team objectives
  • Participate in shift handover meetings to ensure operational continuity
  • Identify personal training needs and support development planning
  • Provide on-the-job coaching and mentorship to learners
  • Deliver presentations on plant equipment and operational processes
  • Conduct IMS inspections to enhance plant sustainability and compliance
  • Respond effectively during emergency situations to restore plant operations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve daily operational issues
  • Contribute to safety improvements through toolbox talks and team discussions

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / N3 with Mathematics, Physical Science, and English
  • NQF Level 4 or 5 qualification
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Minimum 4 years’ relevant experience in a chemical or production environment
