Job Overview
The Chemical Plant Operator (CPO) is responsible for overseeing maintenance and repair activities within a specific production process. This role involves operating control systems, resolving complex technical issues, and ensuring the safe and efficient running of plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage maintenance and repair tasks within the production line
- Operate and monitor control panels to ensure optimal plant performance
- Provide consistent feedback to supervisors regarding progress and operational challenges
- Participate in risk assessments to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards
- Maintain high housekeeping standards and follow waste management procedures
- Work independently while contributing effectively to team objectives
- Participate in shift handover meetings to ensure operational continuity
- Identify personal training needs and support development planning
- Provide on-the-job coaching and mentorship to learners
- Deliver presentations on plant equipment and operational processes
- Conduct IMS inspections to enhance plant sustainability and compliance
- Respond effectively during emergency situations to restore plant operations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve daily operational issues
- Contribute to safety improvements through toolbox talks and team discussions
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / N3 with Mathematics, Physical Science, and English
- NQF Level 4 or 5 qualification
- Valid driver’s license
- Minimum 4 years’ relevant experience in a chemical or production environment
