Job Overview
The Maintenance Operator Gr 2 Mechanical is responsible for supporting the maintenance and operation of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. This role ensures equipment reliability, safety compliance, and optimal productivity through accurate field data collection and timely repairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment efficiently and safely
- Follow work plans and schedules to ensure maintenance tasks are completed on time
- Identify equipment faults using established methods to maintain availability and reliability
- Participate in root cause analyses (RCA) and provide feedback to improvement teams
- Attend daily morning meetings to discuss assignments and report on progress
- Apply and uphold safety standards, including participation in My IMS inspections and toolbox talks
- Maintain good housekeeping and adhere to waste disposal procedures
- Attend training courses and seminars according to the training matrix to enhance competency and skills
- Identify personal development needs and incorporate them into a Personal Development Plan (PDP) with group leader approval
- Perform plant inspections and necessary repairs to ensure optimal equipment performance
- Provide feedback to supervisors and customers on maintenance progress
- Capture accurate history and feedback to support renewals, upgrades, and critical spare replacements
- Spot continuous improvement opportunities in own work area
- Participate in PDAs and RCAs to improve plant safety and stability
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics, Physical Science, and English or Full N3 with Pure Mathematics, Physical Science, and English
- CHIETA NQF 2 Occupational Qualification in Mechanical
- 1–2+ years of relevant experience in mechanical maintenance
- Valid driver’s license
