Discovery Vacancies – HVAC Specialist
The HVAC Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all maintenance strategies are effectively implemented in line with manufacturer specifications. The role focuses on maintaining optimal performance of HVAC systems, conducting fault finding and analysis, and ensuring service level agreements are consistently met across both critical and non-critical environments. The position also includes financial oversight, project coordination, contractor management, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Management
- Develop and execute preventative maintenance schedules
- Ensure all statutory maintenance requirements are completed as required
- Manage reactive maintenance and perform accurate fault diagnosis and analysis
- Implement condition-based maintenance to maintain system efficiency
Financial Management
- Support budgeting processes and cost planning
- Monitor and track expenditure against approved budgets
- Review and approve invoices and quotations
- Assist with capital expenditure planning and cost allocation
- Manage purchase order submissions
Project Management
- Oversee HVAC installations and office modifications
- Ensure projects are completed on time and meet quality standards
Team Leadership
- Manage, coach, and develop maintenance team members
- Allocate tasks and monitor team performance
- Promote continuous skills development and uphold team standards
Commissioning and Contractor Management
- Oversee commissioning of new equipment and installations
- Manage contractors on-site and ensure compliance with service agreements
- Handle work permits and ensure quality control standards are maintained
Health and Safety Compliance
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards
- Enforce the use of appropriate PPE and safe working practices
- Oversee lockout procedures and ensure adherence to safety protocols
Data Centre Operations
- Manage change control processes and rollback procedures
- Monitor system performance and analyze operational trends
- Maintain optimal environmental conditions within facilities
Reporting
- Prepare and submit operational and performance reports
Work Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the HVAC field
- Experience working with chilled water systems and direct expansion units
- Proven experience in team management
Advantageous Experience
- Experience in data centre environments
- Exposure to critical HVAC equipment such as chillers and computer room air conditioning systems
Education
- ACCRA Level 3 certification
- ACCRA Level 4 or higher and refrigeration mechanic qualification is advantageous
Technical Skills and Knowledge
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems and HVAC operations
- Experience with installation and commissioning of HVAC equipment
- Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Ability to operate and program variable speed drives
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Advantageous Skills
- Knowledge of control system programming
- Experience with water pumps, chillers, and cooling towers
- Ability to perform pressure testing, air and water balancing
- Ability to read and interpret psychrometric charts
