Discovery Vacancies – Accountant

Key Purpose of the Role
The Group Accountant is responsible for the consolidation of monthly and annual financial reporting within Discovery, ensuring accurate, timely, and IFRS-compliant financial reporting across the Group and its subsidiaries.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Consolidation and Reporting

  • Prepare monthly consolidated management accounts, including Income Statement, Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Other Comprehensive Income, Statement of Changes in Equity, and Cash Flow Statement
  • Compile segmental reporting and ensure accurate consolidation of Group financial results
  • Review foreign subsidiary financial translations and consolidation entries to ensure IFRS compliance
  • Assist in the preparation of financial results for Group Exco and Discovery Limited Board meetings
  • Produce Interim and Annual Financial Statements (AFS) for the Group and other external reporting requirements

Budgeting, Forecasting and Analysis

  • Prepare consolidated Group budgets and forecasts for Exco and Board presentation
  • Provide financial input and analysis to support strategic decision-making
  • Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting requests from internal stakeholders

Regulatory and External Reporting

  • Support Group Risk with financial data for Solvency and Embedded Value reporting
  • Assist in preparation and review of SENS announcements related to financial results
  • Liaise with External Reporting and Investor Relations teams on financial disclosures

Systems and Process Support

  • Assist with administration and maintenance of accounting systems (Sage) and reporting tools (OneStream)
  • Support system enhancements and ensure data integrity across reporting platforms
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of financial reporting processes

Audit and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with internal and external auditors during audit processes
  • Provide financial information and resolve audit queries
  • Collaborate with various business units on finance-related queries and support requirements

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS standards
  • Advanced Excel skills and financial modelling capability
  • Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • Good project management abilities

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA(SA))
  • 0–3 years’ post-qualification experience in a similar role
  • Experience in financial consolidation is advantageous
  • Experience in the insurance industry is advantageous
