Key Purpose
The AI Data Scientist will play a key role in developing and integrating advanced artificial intelligence solutions, including natural language processing (NLP), large language models (LLMs), and image-based AI systems. This role focuses on enabling automated decision-making, improving operational efficiency, and delivering highly personalized customer experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineers, system architects, and content specialists to deliver AI-driven solutions, with a strong emphasis on image AI technologies
- Develop, deploy, and integrate scalable LLMs within AI frameworks to enhance natural language capabilities
- Implement advanced data retrieval techniques such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, and semantic search to improve data accuracy and relevance
- Design and optimize automation workflows to increase efficiency, reduce manual effort, and lower operational costs
- Establish and monitor performance metrics to ensure AI models maintain high accuracy and efficiency over time
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and ethical standards in all AI and data processes
- Prototype and experiment with machine learning models, particularly in NLP and LLM applications, to evaluate and improve system performance
- Stay updated with emerging AI trends, research, and industry advancements to continuously enhance solutions
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Strong proficiency in SQL and database management
- Solid experience in Python for data science and machine learning
- Knowledge of TensorFlow, PyTorch, NLP frameworks, and LLM technologies is advantageous
- Familiarity with Azure cloud services is beneficial
- Experience with Databricks is an added advantage
Education
- Matric (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field
- Honours or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is advantageous
Experience
- 2–4 years of experience in a data science or machine learning environment
- Proven ability to build and deploy machine learning workflows at scale, especially involving LLMs
- Experience working with large and complex datasets, including unstructured data such as text
- Experience fine-tuning open-source or proprietary large language models is advantageous
- Exposure to image-based AI models, such as systems for damage detection or feature extraction, is beneficial
