Discovery Vacancies – Actuary
The Actuary plays a key role within a dynamic and commercially driven actuarial team, focusing on financial sustainability, strategic insights, and business optimization. This position goes beyond traditional actuarial functions, offering direct involvement in the financial performance of the business and contributing to high-level decision-making. The role provides exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to influence product design, partner strategies, and overall business direction.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning and Sustainability
- Develop and maintain financial projection models, including budgets, forecasts, and scenario analysis
- Monitor actual performance against budgets and provide insights on variances
- Assess the financial impact of pricing, product changes, and customer engagement trends
- Support long-term financial planning to balance customer value with commercial viability
Partner Commercial Analysis
- Evaluate the financial performance and sustainability of partner agreements
- Build models to assess deal structures, pricing strategies, and renegotiation scenarios
- Support partner negotiations with data-driven insights on value and cost structures
- Track partner usage trends and identify potential risks and opportunities
Business Optimization and Analysis
- Conduct detailed analysis on cost drivers, revenue leakage, and operational performance
- Analyze customer behavior and engagement patterns to determine financial impact
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate return on investment for initiatives
- Recommend improvements to enhance financial performance and efficiency
- Develop dashboards and reporting tools for real-time performance tracking
Actuarial and Strategic Support
- Contribute to actuarial models supporting business strategy and value creation
- Assist with strategic initiatives and projects led by senior leadership
- Provide analytical support across various business functions
Requirements
Qualifications
- Qualified Actuary (FASSA or equivalent international qualification)
- Strong academic background
Experience
- Experience in actuarial, financial, or consulting environments such as insurance, banking, or advisory
- Exposure to financial modelling, budgeting, or commercial analysis
- Experience working with large datasets and generating actionable insights
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Excel for financial modelling
- Knowledge of SQL and Python is advantageous
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau is beneficial
- Ability to build and validate complex financial models
