Job Overview
The Mechanical Foreman is responsible for first-line leadership and management of a mechanical team, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of operations and maintenance activities. This role drives team performance, builds technical competence, and ensures adherence to safety, quality, and production standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, control, and manage mechanical operations and maintenance activities
- Ensure effective execution of tasks with optimal quality, efficiency, and equipment utilization
- Manage and control costs while maintaining production output
- Evaluate and respond to abnormal situations during emergencies to prevent downtime, equipment damage, or SHERQ incidents
- Ensure the team adheres to operational and maintenance procedures, safety standards, and SHERQ requirements
- Schedule maintenance planning to maximize plant output
- Address first occurrence performance issues, misconduct, disciplinary and grievance matters
- Coach and develop artisans to achieve technical competence and career progression
- Lead, motivate, and ensure wellness of team members while promoting company values
- Facilitate clear communication within the team, management, and cross-functional stakeholders
- Participate in recruitment and staff selection panels
- Enforce standard operating procedures and process safety management compliance
- Manage work permit execution, task risk assessments, and MOC processes
- Support interdepartmental coordination and continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide technical support and input for projects and change management initiatives
- Drive initiatives to improve overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) for the plant
- Apply innovative methods to enhance operational and maintenance outcomes
Minimum Requirements
- National Senior Certificate / N3 with Mathematics, Physical Science, and English
- Mechanical Occupational Trade Certificate (Red Seal)
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in petrochemical or refinery environments
- Extensive experience in plant shutdowns and turnarounds
- Supervisory or foreman experience (3+ years preferred)
- Proficiency in Maintenance Systems (SAP PM or similar)
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and engineering drawings
