About the Role

The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities within the secure distribution sector, while maintaining and expanding the existing client base. This role focuses on targeting ideal clients aligned with company products and services, driving sustainable revenue growth, and ensuring successful onboarding and management of strategic accounts. Newly acquired accounts are to be managed for a 12-month period before transitioning to the retention team.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Senior Key Account Management and new business sales
  • Proven experience in prospecting and securing strategic new business
  • Demonstrated success in achieving sales targets
  • Strong experience in tender management, including sourcing information, pricing, and delivering professional proposals within deadlines
  • Experience presenting to executive-level stakeholders (C-Level)
  • Ability to maintain and grow an existing customer base
  • Experience in implementing and managing strategic accounts
  • Ability to report directly to the General Manager
  • Experience in weekly and monthly reporting

Preferred Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of secure distribution and supply chain operations
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Advanced business development and negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Solid commercial awareness
  • Professional presentation and conduct

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Advanced computer skills are advantageous

Qualifications

  • Matric (essential)
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (advantageous)

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and grow the existing client base while achieving monthly and annual retention targets
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, building a strong pipeline and converting leads into long-term clients
  • Manage relationships with both new and existing clients
  • Prepare and share monthly billing and financial reports with stakeholders
  • Perform daily administrative tasks efficiently
  • Represent the DSV brand in all client interactions
  • Analyze sales data and provide weekly reports to the Regional New Business Sales Manager
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records
  • Monitor competitor activities and provide industry insights
  • Manage the preparation, submission, and presentation of tenders and proposals
  • Deliver innovative, value-driven solutions tailored to client needs
  • Achieve monthly and cumulative sales targets
  • Ensure smooth implementation and communication of new business across departments
  • Manage debtor days in line with company requirements
  • Promote effective interdepartmental collaboration
  • Identify cross-functional opportunities and work with department heads to enhance service delivery
  • Ensure all client documentation complies with company procedures and quality standards
  • Maintain and update the internal CRM system
  • Meet defined client engagement and call ratio KPIs
  • Perform additional duties as required by management
