Job Overview
The Boilermaker is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal components for truck bodies. This role requires precision, technical expertise, and adherence to safety standards to ensure high-quality workmanship and timely project completion.
Key Responsibilities
Metal Fabrication and Welding
- Cut, shape, and assemble metal components according to specifications.
- Operate fabrication tools such as plasma cutters, grinders, and shears effectively.
- Perform welding tasks using appropriate techniques to ensure precision and durability.
- Select suitable materials based on project requirements.
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications accurately.
- Measure and mark components to ensure correct alignment and fit.
- Conduct repairs on damaged truck body components and perform routine maintenance.
- Stay updated with the latest welding and fabrication technologies and methods.
Quality Control and Safety Compliance
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and guidelines.
- Maintain and clean tools and equipment regularly.
- Identify and resolve fabrication issues effectively.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with team members, foremen, and managers to coordinate tasks.
- Ensure work is completed within project timelines.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and time spent.
Panelshop Operations
- Review job cards or quotations to determine required tasks.
- Inspect vehicles and identify necessary repairs and additional damages.
- Order required parts and follow up to ensure timely availability.
- Verify that all parts are correct and undamaged.
- Coordinate with the paint shop for parts requiring painting.
- Strip and reassemble vehicle components.
- Ensure proper panel alignment and accurate fitment.
- Conduct final inspections to confirm quality and roadworthiness of vehicles.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Red Seal Trade Certificate.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant workshop experience.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong attention to detail for precise measurements and high-quality output.
- High level of safety awareness and compliance.
- Proficiency in metal cutting, shaping, and welding techniques.
- Skilled in using fabrication tools and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
