Key Responsibilities

As a General Assistant, you will be instrumental in various aspects of store operations, including:

• Customer Service Excellence: Providing comprehensive customer service, advising and assisting customers with product selection and queries, and effectively resolving customer complaints.
• Merchandising Standards: Ensuring stock is merchandised effectively in bulk storage areas and on shelves according to store layout plans and planograms. This includes maintaining clear aisles and ensuring stock is merchandised promptly after receipt.
• Housekeeping and Presentation: Maintaining a clean and organised work environment. This involves ensuring your designated area is free of obstacles, correct shelf price labelling is in place, and completing checklists as required, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules.
• Safety Compliance: Adhering to all Safety (OHSA) requirements, including the use of safety gear and ensuring the safety of both customers and colleagues. You will be responsible for ensuring that stock is merchandised safely in racking and bulk areas to allow safe movement within the store.
• Stock Management: Reporting any damaged stock within your area of responsibility to the Store Manager and reporting any discrepancies promptly.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• A minimum of Grade 10 or NQF 3 and 1 year of relevant work experience, OR
• A Grade 12 qualification without prior related work experience.
• The ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language spoken in Grahamstown.
• A valid South African ID or work permit.
• Proficiency in performing basic calculations accurately.
• A willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
• The ability to perform well under pressure.
