We are seeking a proactive and experienced Assistant Manager to join the Cashbuild team in Pongola, KwaZulu-Natal. This role is instrumental in driving the store’s performance and ensuring profitable market share growth by supporting the Store Manager in implementing strategic initiatives.

Role Overview

As an Assistant Manager, you will play a crucial role in protecting and expanding profitable market share within the store, aligning with the overall Store, Division, and Company strategy. You will collaborate closely with the Store Manager to achieve key business objectives and maintain operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Management
  • Assist the Store Manager in developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive Store Business Plan, ensuring alignment with the Company’s overarching strategy and approved strategic initiatives.
Grow and Protect Market Share
  • Support the Store Manager in achieving market share growth targets for the store.
  • Contribute to meeting sales budgets and growth objectives across all categories.
  • Promote customer loyalty programs such as VIC and charge cards.
  • Assist in the efficient distribution of advertising materials.
  • Develop proactive action plans to protect market share when competitors enter the trading area.
Customer Service
  • Aid in the implementation and monitoring of the Customer Service strategy.
  • Help maintain Customer Audit scores above 95%.
  • Support a reliable and prompt Customer Delivery Service.
  • Assist in growing and maintaining the VIC client base.
  • Contribute to achieving Transaction budgets.
  • Provide recommendations for range improvements based on market needs.
  • Take action on customer survey feedback by implementing required action plans.
Asset Control: Stock
  • Assist the Store Manager in managing and controlling store shrinkage.
  • Support the management of the PIC (Product Inventory Control) process.
  • Contribute to the execution of Wall-to-Wall Stock Takes.
  • Oversee and control stock movement within the store, including End Control, IBTs (Inter-Branch Transfers), and Customer Returns.
  • Assist in managing the receiving process.
  • Support the analysis of security requirements and implementation of necessary changes.
  • Help maintain physical security measures.
Asset Control: Cash
  • Assist the Store Manager in managing debtors and RD (Refer to Drawer) cheques.
  • Support the management of petty cash.
  • Contribute to daily banking procedures.
  • Assist in managing shorts and overs.
  • Support the management of cheque and credit card transactions.
Asset Control: Fixed Assets
  • Aid in the maintenance and protection of racking and displays.
  • Support the upkeep and protection of internal and external signage.
  • Assist with the maintenance of forklifts and generators.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and protection of IT Equipment and telephone systems.
  • Support the maintenance and protection of the store’s safe.
Human Resource Management
  • Assist the Store Manager with recruiting and inducting all employees.
  • Ensure training and development initiatives are in place for the store team.
  • Support succession planning and career pathing within the store.
  • Manage manpower requirements in line with Divisional and Store strategies and Company benchmarks.
  • Facilitate open communication and relations with the Store Employee Committee through CARE Meetings and CB Mail.
  • Assist in managing employee relations effectively.
Store Safety (OHSA) Standards
  • Support the Store Manager in managing safety aspects in line with local (OHSA) and/or neighbouring Countries’ legislation.
  • Ensure checklists are completed and safety representatives are appointed as per the OHSA Act.
  • Assist in reporting all incidents and maintaining incident records.
Store Trading Standards
  • Aid in maintaining housekeeping standards within the store.
  • Support the management of merchandising standards.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of correct planograms.
  • Help maintain yard and parking areas.
Profitability
  • Support the Store Manager in achieving the operating income budget.
  • Assist in managing the store in accordance with the Financial Model, benchmarks, and budgets.
CB Way
  • Assist the Store Manager in achieving the Audit Benchmark by monitoring adherence to Company standards.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of controls and disciplines.
  • Aid in implementing Corrective Action Plans where necessary.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 qualification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of retail management experience.
  • A valid Driver’s License.
  • A valid South African ID or a valid work permit.
  • Strong accounting skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure.
  • Computer literacy (basic).
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong administrative skills.
  • Must have own reliable transport and a cell phone.
  • Sound knowledge of Health and Safety aspects in line with local (OHSA) and/or neighbouring Countries’ legislation.
  • Strong Human Resources skills.
