Job Title: Cashier

Cashbuild is seeking a diligent and customer-focused Cashier to join our team in Cape Town. As a Cashier, you will be instrumental in ensuring accurate Point of Sale (POS) transactions and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction. This role is critical to ensuring that all goods are properly accounted for and paid for before leaving the store.

Key Responsibilities

Cash Handling

  • Accurately manage all allocated cash, including floats and petty cash, ensuring balances are correct with no discrepancies.
  • Verify and accurately capture customer goods on the Point of Sale (POS) terminal.
  • Process customer payments using the correct payment types on the POS terminal.
  • Maintain sufficient change levels at all times.
  • Ensure accurate and timely execution of pick-ups.
  • Perform accurate cash-ups at the end of each shift.
  • Securely deposit all daily takings into the drop safe or vault.
  • Process all transactions related to other stores, deliveries, and quotes correctly.

Administration

  • Sign, compile, and file all documentation relevant to the Cashier function.

Customer Service

  • Provide fast, friendly, and efficient service to all Cashbuild customers during check-in and check-out processes.
  • Direct customers to the appropriate personnel for further assistance.
  • Adhere to the company’s dress code policy.

Safety and Security

  • Ensure compliance with Safety (OHSA) regulations, including customer and staff safety within your area of responsibility.
  • Report any discrepancies to the Store Manager.
  • Adhere to security protocols, such as maintaining till point system password control.
  • Ensure secure handling and transport of cash to the cash office according to Cashbuild Way requirements.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or a minimum of one (1) year of relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in English and the dominant language spoken in the geographical area of the position.
  • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.

  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
