About the Role
As a General Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a seamless shopping experience for our customers. Your responsibilities will include providing excellent customer service, maintaining stock standards through effective merchandising and pricing, and upholding high standards of store housekeeping and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Service Excellence:
- Actively advise and assist customers with product selection and address their queries.
- Effectively handle and resolve customer complaints to ensure satisfaction.
- Merchandising and Stock Management:
- Maintain a fully merchandised area of responsibility, adhering to store layout plans and planograms.
- Ensure bulk stock areas are merchandised safely and organized according to the store’s layout.
- Report any damaged stock within your designated area to the Store Manager.
- Store Presentation and Housekeeping:
- Maintain impeccable housekeeping standards within your area, ensuring it is free of obstacles.
- Merchandise stock promptly after receiving it and ensure aisles are clear and safe for customer access.
- Apply correct shelf price labelling in your area of responsibility.
- Complete required checklists, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules when on duty.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all Safety (OHSA) requirements, including the use of safety gear.
- Ensure the safety of both customers and colleagues within your area of responsibility.
- Report any safety discrepancies or concerns to the Store Manager.
Requirements
To be successful in this General Assistant role, you will need:
- A minimum of Grade 10 or NQF 3 qualification with at least one year of relevant work experience, OR a Grade 12 qualification without prior work experience.
- Strong communication skills in both English and the dominant local language spoken in the Cape Town area.
- A valid South African ID or work permit.
- The ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- The capacity to work effectively under pressure.
