About the Role
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a motivated Casual Frontshop Assistant to support retail operations and deliver excellent customer service. The role focuses on maintaining merchandising standards, ensuring stock availability, and assisting customers at the point of sale in line with company policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 – Matric or Senior Certificate
- 0 – 6 months retail work experience
Advantageous:
- 1 year experience within a retail environment
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure shelves are fully stocked, neatly displayed, and well maintained
- Monitor stock to ensure items are within sell-by dates
- Replenish merchandise to maximise sales opportunities
- Follow up on out-of-stock queries and resolve them promptly
- Ensure stock from deliveries or storeroom is correctly packed and stored
- Maintain accurate pricing, labelling, and report discrepancies to management
- Keep the storeroom clean, organised, and accessible
- Stay updated on product knowledge to assist customers effectively
- Assist with restocking, back shopping, and merchandising support
- Handle all merchandise carefully to prevent losses
- Process customer transactions including cash, cards, vouchers, and coupons
- Manage returns and exchanges in line with company procedures
- Process loyalty programmes and partner rewards
- Ensure secure handling of cash and compliance with drop safe procedures
- Obtain approval for voids and price changes from supervisors
- Maintain accurate cash flow at all times
- Support stock rotation and adhere to stock control procedures
- Report low, damaged, expired, or out-of-stock items to management
- Assist with stock counts and inventory processes
- Support loading and off-loading of stock when required
- Maintain cleanliness by flattening boxes and disposing in designated areas
- Provide friendly, professional, and helpful customer service
- Report customer feedback and complaints to management
- Meet customer service and transaction efficiency targets
- Assist in training team members when required
- Ensure all outgoing items are scanned and paid for
- Safeguard daily takings until secured in the drop safe
- Identify and report suspicious behaviour
- Maintain housekeeping standards in line with company expectations
- Comply with all policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations
- Adhere to company uniform and appearance standards
Competencies
Essential Skills:
- Understanding of retail operations and administrative processes
- Problem-solving ability and awareness of escalation procedures
- Basic numerical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Customer-focused with timely response to queries
- Ability to follow procedures and maintain quality standards
- Self-motivated with strong accountability and time management
Advantageous:
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Familiarity with SAP systems
Special Conditions of Employment
- Willing and able to work retail hours
- South African citizenship
- Clear criminal and credit record (MIE verification)
