General Manager, Sales Transport – DSV Vacancies

About the Role

The General Manager, Sales Transport is responsible for leading and managing the Road Transport sales and brokering division, with full accountability for revenue growth, retention, and overall commercial performance. This role requires a strategic leader with deep industry expertise to drive sales excellence, expand the customer base, and position the business for future growth across additional logistics verticals.

Role Overview

  • Oversee the full Road Transport sales and brokering function
  • Drive strategic growth by retaining existing clients and securing new business
  • Influence cross-functional areas including Operations, Finance, Human Resources, and IT
  • Take ownership of revenue targets and long-term business expansion strategies
  • Lead high-performing sales teams to achieve business objectives

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Management

  • Ensure alignment between sales strategies, customer needs, and company objectives
  • Manage tender submissions, proposals, and customer presentations
  • Monitor revenue performance, identify leakage, and implement corrective actions
  • Set and manage annual customer budgets, including seasonal trends and trading patterns
  • Oversee debtor management, ensuring targets are met and outstanding balances are minimized

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and manage sales executives and brokering teams
  • Set annual performance goals and conduct quarterly and annual reviews
  • Foster a positive, high-performance team environment
  • Support employee development, motivation, and conflict resolution
  • Plan resources to ensure operational efficiency and capacity

Governance, Compliance, and Reporting

  • Oversee contract negotiations, including liabilities, insurance, NDAs, and penalties
  • Ensure all customer contracts are updated, signed, and compliant
  • Manage annual rate increases and maintain accurate records
  • Deliver monthly reporting on new business, retention, and performance metrics
  • Ensure compliance with insurance declarations and governance requirements

Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers at executive level
  • Conduct regular customer engagements, including operational reviews and strategic sessions
  • Manage customer escalations effectively and implement long-term solutions
  • Strengthen internal collaboration across departments and business units

Solution Design and Implementation

  • Provide technical guidance to sales teams on solution development
  • Drive continuous improvement of business processes and service delivery
  • Oversee the implementation of new clients and services to ensure successful onboarding

Qualifications

  • Matric / Grade 12 (essential)
  • Degree in Supply Chain or related field (preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Willingness to travel and work extended hours when required
  • IR-related training (advantageous)

Computer Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics (training provided)

Experience and Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in end-to-end supply chain or transport operations
  • At least 3 years’ experience managing commercial or sales teams
  • Proven experience in FTL, LTL, and transport brokerage environments
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities
  • Sales coaching and leadership training experience
  • Strong financial acumen, including understanding of P&L and EBIT drivers
  • Proven ability to drive revenue growth and retention strategies
  • Experience engaging with executive-level stakeholders
  • Results-driven with a strong focus on performance and accountability
  • Strong conflict management and resolution skills
  • Ability to identify customer churn and implement corrective action plans
