The Travel Insurance Manager serves as the primary point of contact for Discovery Travel Insurance’s key accounts, including independent brokers, binders, and supporting tied agents within the retail distribution network. This role is responsible for driving performance, profitability, retention, and optimisation of strategic partnerships while ensuring alignment with Discovery’s commercial goals, compliance standards, and operating model.
Key Responsibilities
Leisure Travel (60% focus)
- Manage key Travel Insurance accounts and distributors to achieve KPIs including premium growth, profitability, service excellence, and retention
- Drive account optimisation strategies to enhance customer experience, conversion, and revenue performance
- Identify and implement growth opportunities, corrective actions, and additional revenue streams across existing partnerships
- Collaborate with internal teams to influence product development and ensure timely delivery of partner requirements
- Develop and maintain long-term partnership strategies focused on sustainable growth
- Lead renewal processes in collaboration with stakeholders, ensuring retention targets and loss ratio objectives are met
Corporate & Individual Travel (30% focus)
- Strengthen broker and binder relationships to drive incremental premium growth
- Support new business development within underwriting guidelines and appetite
- Collaborate with underwriting and operations teams to respond to quotes and support onboarding of new business
- Ensure timely renewal of accounts in partnership with internal stakeholders
- Resolve broker and policyholder queries effectively and efficiently
- Conduct training sessions for brokers and policyholders to improve product understanding and engagement
General Responsibilities (10% focus)
- Liaise with compliance and risk teams to ensure adherence to regulatory and internal policies
- Prepare and present data-driven reports and analytics for business decision-making
- Support month-end reporting, submissions, and reconciliations
- Monitor industry trends, market developments, and competitive activity

Education and Experience

- Matric (Essential)
- FAIS Compliant
- RE5 Certification
- Continuous Professional Development (CPD) compliance

Experience
- 4–6 years’ experience in the travel insurance industry
- Strong technical knowledge of short-term insurance products and operations
