We are seeking a proactive and customer-focused individual to join our team as a General Assistant. This role is crucial in ensuring a positive and efficient shopping experience for our customers while maintaining high standards in stock management and store presentation. Key Responsibilities

Customer Service Excellence

  • Provide comprehensive and friendly customer service within the store.
  • Advise and assist customers with product selection and address any queries they may have.
  • Effectively handle and resolve customer complaints to ensure satisfaction.

Merchandising and Presentation

  • Maintain merchandising standards for all stock, ensuring shelves are correctly priced and areas are well-organized.
  • Ensure your designated area of responsibility is fully merchandised according to store layout and planograms.
  • Manage bulk stock areas safely and in line with the store’s layout plan.

Store Operations and Housekeeping

  • Uphold high standards of housekeeping in your assigned area, ensuring it is free of obstacles.
  • Merchandise stock promptly upon receipt.
  • Ensure aisles are clear and safe for customers to navigate without risk of injury or irritation.
  • Complete required checklists, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules when on duty.

Safety and Compliance

  • Adhere to all Safety (OHSA) requirements, including the use of safety gear.
  • Ensure the safety of both customers and staff within your area of responsibility.
  • Maintain safe stock merchandising in racking and bulk areas for the safety of customers and colleagues.
  • Report any safety discrepancies or concerns to the Store Manager.

Stock Management

  • Report any damaged stock within your area of responsibility to the Store Manager.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A minimum of Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 qualification with at least one year of relevant work experience; OR
  • A Grade 12 qualification with no prior work experience.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively in English and the primary language spoken in the geographical area of the position.
  • Must possess a valid South African ID or work permit.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Capacity to work effectively under pressure.
