Role Overview
As a General Assistant, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, ensuring stock is accurately merchandised and priced, and maintaining high standards of store cleanliness. Your efforts will directly contribute to the smooth functioning and overall appearance of the store.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Service:
- Provide expert advice and assistance to customers regarding products and their queries.
- Effectively handle and resolve customer complaints to ensure satisfaction.
- Merchandising Standards:
- Organize and merchandise stock in bulk storage areas safely and according to the store’s layout plan.
- Ensure your designated area of responsibility is fully merchandised in line with store layout and planograms.
- Accurately label shelves with correct pricing.
- Housekeeping and Safety:
- Maintain a clean and obstacle-free work area, ensuring stock is merchandised promptly after receipt.
- Guarantee customer and staff safety by keeping aisles clear and accessible.
- Complete required checklists, including canteen and restroom/shower schedules, when on duty.
- Adhere to Safety (OHSA) regulations, including the use of safety gear and ensuring the safety of customers and staff.
- Ensure racking and bulk stock areas are merchandised safely for colleagues and customers to navigate the store without risk.
- Report any safety discrepancies or concerns to the Store Manager immediately.
- Stock Management:
- Report any damaged stock within your area of responsibility to the Store Manager.
Requirements
To be considered for this General Assistant position, you will need:
- A minimum of Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 qualification with at least one year of relevant work experience, OR a Grade 12 qualification without prior work experience.
- Strong communication skills in English and proficiency in the dominant local language spoken in Piet Retief.
- A valid South African ID or valid work permit.
- The ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- The capacity to work effectively under pressure.
