Absa Vacancies – Regional Manager: Islamic Banking

The Regional Manager: Islamic Banking is responsible for driving the origination, growth, and management of the Islamic Banking client portfolio within the assigned region. This role focuses on expanding customer relationships across Retail, Business Banking, and Corporate segments while ensuring full compliance with Shari’ah governance principles and regulatory requirements.

You will play a key leadership role in embedding Islamic Banking solutions within mainstream banking channels, ensuring disciplined growth and strong market presence in the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, manage, and grow a sustainable portfolio of Islamic Banking clients across multiple segments
  • Drive acquisition of new clients through proactive pipeline management, referrals, and targeted market engagement
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients on Islamic Banking solutions, structures, and value propositions
  • Maintain high standards of client service, responsiveness, and execution excellence
  • Collaborate with credit, risk, and operations teams to ensure efficient and compliant product delivery
  • Support client education and awareness of Islamic Banking principles and offerings
  • Ensure strict adherence to Shari’ah governance, acting as the first line of defence in all client interactions
  • Guarantee that no product is marketed, structured, or executed without proper Shari’ah approval
  • Identify, manage, and escalate Shari’ah, credit, conduct, AML, and reputational risks in a timely manner
  • Partner with Personal, Business, and Corporate Banking teams to integrate Islamic Banking into broader client solutions
  • Align regional activities with the Islamic Banking commercialization strategy and group objectives
  • Collaborate with internal functions including Product, Credit, Risk, Legal, Compliance, Segments, and Operations
  • Engage with community, industry, and institutional stakeholders to strengthen regional market presence
  • Achieve financial and non-financial targets including customer growth, asset growth, deposits, and revenue
  • Maintain accurate reporting on pipeline performance, portfolio activity, and business metrics
  • Provide market insights to support strategic decision-making and client engagement
  • Ensure full compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and enterprise risk frameworks
  • Maintain proper client due diligence, monitoring, and documentation standards

Requirements

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in relationship management within Business Banking, Corporate Banking, or Personal Banking
  • Strong exposure to Islamic Banking or Islamic finance products
  • Solid understanding of credit processes, risk management, and banking products
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships and deliver business growth
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field

Preferred:

  • Islamic Finance qualification such as IFQ, CIFP, or AAOIFI-aligned certification
