Discovery Vacancies – Actuarial Analyst

The AI Actuarial Analyst will design and implement innovative, data-driven solutions to address challenges across operational processes. This includes improving efficiency within claims, sales, and servicing functions through the application of actuarial, statistical, and data science techniques. The role also provides an opportunity to leverage machine learning and generative AI to solve a wide range of real-world business problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance supplier scoring and evaluation models
  • Optimize and automate supplier allocation and appointment processes
  • Apply generative AI techniques to improve and streamline business operations
  • Perform procurement and supplier analytics to support decision-making
  • Conduct claims and servicing analytics to identify trends and drive improvements
  • Strengthen and refine fraud detection models
  • Test and pilot emerging AI technologies to drive operational efficiencies
  • Collaborate with internal teams to deliver practical and scalable analytical solutions

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities
  • Solid technical and quantitative skills
  • Solution-driven mindset with a focus on innovation
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within teams
  • Strong reporting and documentation skills
  • Intermediate modelling and statistical analysis capabilities
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and Radar (intermediate level)
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Basic experience with generative AI technologies

Education

  • Matric (required)
  • Honours degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematical Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field
  • Strong progress in actuarial examinations, preferably academically qualified

Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in research and development within the insurance industry is advantageous
