The Calypso Technical Developer will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software solutions within the Calypso trading platform environment. The role requires strong hands-on experience with Calypso architecture, APIs, and Java development, as well as a solid understanding of front-to-back trade lifecycle processes across multiple asset classes. The incumbent will translate business requirements into technical designs aligned with Discovery Bank architecture standards and deliver robust, scalable, and maintainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Design and Development

• Translate business requirements into technical designs aligned with architecture standards
• Develop and maintain Calypso workflows, scheduled tasks, and messaging components
• Implement technical specifications within the Calypso system framework
• Produce high-quality source code following established development standards
• Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance and data efficiency

System Analysis and Delivery

• Participate in Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions with business and technical stakeholders
• Analyse business requirements and clarify gaps with analysts and users
• Design and document technical solutions using standard templates
• Facilitate technical analysis sessions to ensure alignment across stakeholders
• Ensure delivery of defect-free releases with zero critical issues

Support and Maintenance

• Provide technical support for production systems and resolve incidents
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes
• Maintain system stability and ensure optimal performance of Calypso applications
• Support back-office processes including settlements, SWIFT messaging, accounting, and CREs

Code Quality and Mentorship

• Participate in peer code reviews to ensure adherence to standards and best practices
• Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance
• Promote reuse, configurability, and efficient design patterns
• Ensure consistent application of coding standards across all deliverables

Integration and Technical Operations

• Develop and support Calypso API integrations and custom extensions
• Work with large datasets and high-volume transactional systems
• Support configuration of market data, curves, and accounting setups
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes

Education and Experience

• BSc in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related qualification
• Formal Java certification is required
• Minimum 6+ years’ hands-on Calypso development experience (version 16+ or similar)
• At least 6 years’ experience in software development
• Minimum 4 years’ backend Java development experience
• Strong experience in transactional and high-volume systems
• Solid understanding of Calypso APIs, configuration, and risk modules
• Experience in SQL and working with Calypso database structures

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• Strong understanding of SDLC, unit testing, and database design
• Front-to-back trade lifecycle knowledge within Calypso
• Understanding of P&L, accounting setup, curves, and market data configuration
• Knowledge of Fixed Income, FX, Interest Rate, and Credit Derivatives
• Back-office operations including settlements, static data, and positions
