Job Description
As a Forklift Driver at Cashbuild, your primary responsibility will be the safe and cost-effective operation and maintenance of the forklift. You will also play a crucial role in providing comprehensive customer service within the store, ensuring stock is merchandised correctly, shelves are priced accurately, and maintaining high standards of housekeeping in your designated area.
Key Performance Areas
Customer Service
- Greet and assist all customers, identifying their needs and providing accurate product advice.
- Address customer queries and complaints promptly and effectively.
- Promote add-on sales, such as related accessories for paint purchases.
- Ensure efficient customer service by loading purchases without delay and with care to avoid damage to goods or vehicles.
- Inform customers about additional services offered, including:
- Delivery services and bulk deposits
- Glass cutting
- Plan reading
- Credit programmes
- Special orders
- Trusses
- Distant ordering
- VIC Customer Programme
- Maintain a high level of product knowledge.
- Be readily available within your assigned aisle.
Merchandising Standards
- Organise bulk stock areas safely and in line with the store’s layout plan.
- Ensure your area of responsibility is fully merchandised according to store layouts and planograms.
- Merchandise stock according to approved layouts and planograms.
Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean and obstacle-free work area.
- Merchandise received stock immediately and ensure aisles are safe and accessible for customers.
- Ensure correct shelf price labelling within your area of responsibility.
- Complete required checklists, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules when on duty.
Ready for Business
- Adhere to the “Ready for Business” and “Beyond my Control” principles as outlined in the CB Way.
Loss Prevention and Security
- Identify and investigate display gaps, reporting any concerns to management.
- Be vigilant for suspicious behaviour or individuals and report any suspicions to management.
- Ensure no product is loaded for a customer without proof of purchase or required documentation.
Safety (OHSA) Requirements
- Operate the forklift responsibly, avoiding overloading.
- Ensure racking and shelving are not overloaded (e.g., do not stack roof tiles/bricks and cement more than two pallets high).
- Always wear a safety helmet and kidney belt when operating the forklift.
- Never use the forklift to lift personnel.
- Keep entrances and exits clear of obstacles to ensure customer safety.
- Report any forklift faults immediately.
- Report when the forklift is due for servicing.
- Wear protective clothing as necessary.
- Do not operate the forklift if there are any mechanical faults.
- Conduct daily forklift inspections, complete checklists, and report any faults.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or a minimum of one year of relevant work experience.
- Proficiency in English and the dominant language spoken in the Mthatha area.
- Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Must be physically fit to operate a forklift.
- A valid forklift license is essential.
