About the Program

Main Purpose of the Role
The HTS Counselor is responsible for implementing HIV testing and counseling services for clients at the Ivan Toms Centre and its mobile units. This role also provides outreach support to the Mobile Team Coordinator and Professional Nurse to ensure the successful delivery of community-based support activities.

Key Performance Areas

Client Engagement, Education, and Linkage

  • Conduct appointment reminders and follow-ups with clients as requested by the Professional Nurse or Mobile Team Coordinator.
  • Participate in venue-based and digital engagement activities to identify and link clients to facility and mobile services.
  • Provide general awareness and education to potential clients and the public about available services.

Counseling and Client Support Services

  • Conduct risk assessments and other project-specific services, including index testing and EPOA.
  • Perform HIV testing and counseling for MSM and other clients at Ivan Toms Centre and mobile units.
  • Ensure all HTS services comply with National Department of Health guidelines, policies, and organizational protocols.
  • Provide counseling, health education, and support to clients newly initiated on ART or PrEP, and those returning for follow-up.
  • Distribute relevant commodities to clients and community venues.
  • Collaborate with the Professional Nurse and Mobile Team Coordinator to facilitate additional services for each client.

Administrative and Data Support

  • Ensure all HTS stock and supplies are available and properly managed.
  • Comply with waste management and infection control standards.
  • Complete clinical documentation and reporting for HTS, PrEP, ART, index testing, EPOA, and contact confirmation registers.
  • Perform additional data entry, cleaning, or administrative tasks as required.
  • Support other administrative or programmatic activities as directed by relevant stakeholders.
