Compliance Monitoring Officer
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Compliance Monitoring Officer to provide independent assurance that business operations comply with applicable laws, regulations, industry standards, and internal policies. The successful candidate will play a critical role in identifying compliance risks, evaluating control effectiveness, conducting monitoring reviews, and delivering meaningful insights that support sound governance and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance Monitoring and Assurance
- Plan, execute, and manage independent compliance monitoring reviews across various business areas.
- Identify, assess, and report on compliance risks and regulatory exposures.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of controls designed to mitigate compliance risks.
- Conduct walkthroughs, sample testing, data analysis, and control assessments.
- Monitor compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and governance standards.
- Identify instances of non-compliance and escalate findings to the appropriate stakeholders.
Risk Management and Governance
- Support compliance risk assessments and ensure alignment with organizational risk frameworks.
- Review and assess risk acceptance requests in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Assist in strengthening compliance governance structures and control environments.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of compliance monitoring methodologies and frameworks.
- Support regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance-related engagements.
Regulatory and Legislative Compliance
- Review products, services, processes, and policies to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor regulatory developments and assess potential impacts on business operations.
- Identify compliance gaps and recommend practical remediation actions.
- Support the implementation of regulatory changes across the organization.
Reporting and Stakeholder Engagement
- Prepare clear, accurate, and insightful compliance monitoring reports.
- Perform root cause analysis and develop actionable recommendations for identified issues.
- Compile reports for senior management, governance committees, and regulatory bodies.
- Engage with stakeholders to gather information, discuss findings, and support corrective action plans.
- Build strong working relationships across business units to promote a culture of compliance and accountability.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to the enhancement and automation of compliance monitoring and reporting processes.
- Support initiatives aimed at improving compliance effectiveness and operational efficiency.
- Promote best practices in compliance risk management and assurance activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Internal Audit, Accounting, Risk Management, Compliance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in compliance monitoring, compliance assurance, internal auditing, legal advisory, risk management, or financial services compliance.
- Experience conducting compliance reviews, audits, control assessments, and monitoring activities.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance frameworks within the financial services sector.
- Proven experience preparing reports for governance structures, executive management, and regulatory stakeholders.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams across business and technology functions.
Knowledge and Expertise
- Strong knowledge of South African banking and financial services legislation.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements relating to compliance, governance, and risk management.
- Knowledge of internal audit methodologies, assurance practices, and control frameworks.
- Familiarity with compliance monitoring techniques, risk assessments, and regulatory reporting.
- Understanding of data analysis and reporting methodologies.
