Key Responsibilities and Duties
As a Trainee Manager, you will work closely with the Store Manager to ensure the efficient and profitable operation of the store. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of critical areas, including:
- Strategic Management:
- Assist in the development, implementation, and management of the Store Business Plan, ensuring alignment with company strategy.
- Market Share Growth and Protection:
- Support efforts to achieve growth in market share within the store.
- Contribute to meeting sales budgets and growth objectives across all categories.
- Promote customer loyalty programs and manage advertising material distribution for maximum impact.
- Develop proactive action plans to protect market share against competitor activity.
- Customer Service Excellence:
- Assist in implementing and monitoring the customer service strategy.
- Maintain customer audit scores above 95%.
- Support reliable and prompt customer delivery services.
- Contribute to growing and maintaining the VIC client base.
- Help achieve transaction budget targets.
- Recommend range improvements to better suit market needs.
- Implement action plans based on customer survey feedback.
- Asset Control (Stock):
- Assist in managing and controlling shrinkage within the store.
- Support the Point of Inventory Control (PIC) process and wall-to-wall stock takes.
- Oversee stock movement within the store, including end-of-day controls, inter-branch transfers (IBTs), customer returns, and receiving processes.
- Analyze security requirements and implement necessary changes.
- Manage and maintain physical security measures.
- Asset Control (Cash):
- Assist in managing debtors and returned cheques.
- Oversee petty cash management.
- Support daily banking procedures.
- Manage discrepancies in cash handling (shorts and overs).
- Process cheques and credit card transactions.
- Asset Control (Fixed Assets):
- Ensure the maintenance and protection of racking, displays, and signage (internal and external).
- Oversee the maintenance of forklifts and generators.
- Maintain and protect IT equipment and telephone systems.
- Ensure the safe and protection of the store safe.
- Human Resource Management:
- Assist in recruiting and inducting new employees.
- Ensure training and development programs are in place for store staff.
- Support succession planning and career pathing within the store.
- Manage manpower requirements in line with division and company benchmarks.
- Foster open communication and positive employee relations, including engagement with the Store Employee Committee.
- Manage employee relations effectively.
- Store Safety (OHSA) Standards:
- Ensure safety aspects are managed in line with local legislation (OHSA) and/or neighbouring countries’ legislation.
- Ensure safety checklists are completed and Safety Representatives are appointed as per the OHSA Act.
- Record and report all incidents.
- Store Trading Standards:
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping.
- Manage merchandising standards effectively.
- Implement and maintain correct planograms.
- Ensure yard and parking areas are well-maintained.
- Profitability:
- Assist in achieving the operating income budget.
- Manage the store according to the financial model, benchmarks, and budgets.
- CB Way Adherence:
- Achieve audit benchmarks by monitoring adherence to company standards.
- Implement and maintain controls and disciplines.
- Implement corrective action plans as required.
Required Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this Trainee Manager position, candidates must possess:
- Grade 12 qualification.
- A minimum of two (2) years of retail management experience.
- A valid driver’s license.
- A valid ID or valid work permit (local).
- Strong accounting skills.
- The ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Strong leadership and administrative skills.
- Own reliable transport and a cell phone.
- Sound knowledge of Health and Safety aspects in line with local (OHSA) and/or neighbouring countries’ legislation.
- Strong Human Resources skills.
