Cashbuild is seeking a diligent and safety-conscious Forklift Driver to join our team in Ga-Malekana. This role is crucial for maintaining efficient store operations, ensuring customer satisfaction, and upholding our safety standards. As a Forklift Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and effective operation of forklifts, assisting with stock merchandising, pricing, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service:
- Proactively engage with all customers, identifying and addressing their needs.
- Provide accurate product advice and assist with any product-related inquiries.
- Handle customer complaints promptly and effectively.
- Identify opportunities for add-on sales (e.g., paint accessories).
- Ensure efficient loading of customer purchases, taking care not to damage goods or vehicles.
- Inform customers about additional services offered, including delivery, glass cutting, plan reading, credit programmes, special orders, and our VIC Customer Programme.
- Maintain a strong understanding of product knowledge and be readily available in your designated aisle.
Merchandising Standards:
- Organize and maintain the bulk stock area safely and in line with store layout plans.
- Ensure your designated area is fully merchandised according to store layouts and planograms.
Housekeeping:
- Keep your area free of obstacles, merchandise stock promptly upon receipt, and ensure customer access is safe and unimpeded.
- Maintain correct shelf pricing within your area of responsibility.
- Complete required checklists, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules, as per duty roster.
Ready for Business:
- Adhere to Cashbuild’s “Ready for Business” and “Beyond My Control” standards.
Loss Prevention and Security:
- Identify display gaps, investigate causes, and report any concerns to management.
- Be vigilant for suspicious behaviour or individuals and report any suspicions to management.
- Verify proof of purchase or required documentation before loading products for customers.
Safety (OHSA) Requirements:
- Operate the forklift without overloading it or racking/shelving (e.g., stack roof tiles/bricks and cement no more than two pallets high).
- Always wear a safety helmet and kidney belt when operating the forklift.
- Do not use the forklift to lift personnel.
- Ensure entrances and exits are clear of obstacles for safe customer access.
- Immediately report any forklift faults or when a forklift is due for service.
- Wear protective clothing as necessary.
- Do not operate the forklift if mechanical faults are present.
- Conduct daily forklift inspections, complete checklists, and report any faults.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or a minimum of one (1) year of relevant work experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language spoken in the Ga-Malekana area.
- Proficiency in basic calculations.
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- Ability to perform under pressure.
- Physical fitness suitable for operating a forklift.
- A valid forklift license is essential.
