Accountant – Finance Projects
Cashbuild is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Accountant – Finance Projects to join our dynamic finance team in Johannesburg, South Africa. This role is crucial in ensuring financial and business control compliance throughout project execution, maintaining financial and system integrity. Reporting to the Senior Financial Manager Projects, you will be instrumental in managing accurate financial records, supporting financial analysis, and contributing to all project-related finance activities.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Financial Processing and Record-Keeping: Accurately and efficiently process and record financial transactions for various business projects, including expenses, revenue recognition, and cost allocations. You will also assist in preparing project-specific financial reports.
- Support in Feasibility Assessments: Provide essential financial data to aid in evaluating the financial viability of projects. Collaborate closely with the Financial Manager to ensure project costs and financial projections align with budget limitations.
- Assist in Return on Investment (ROI) Calculations: Gather and manage relevant financial data to support ROI calculations. Monitor financial performance against expected returns and report on progress.
- Cost and Breakeven Analysis: Perform fundamental cost analyses and assist in determining project breakeven points. Proactively identify cost-saving opportunities and communicate findings to the Financial Manager.
- Project Financial Support: Provide comprehensive financial oversight for business projects, supporting the Financial Manager. This includes assisting with financial documentation, tracking project expenses, and ensuring adherence to budgets.
- User Acceptance Testing (UAT) – Finance Perspective: Actively participate in UAT from a finance standpoint to verify financial system integrations. Identify and report any discrepancies or issues to the Financial Manager for timely resolution.
- Financial Reporting and Compliance: Prepare financial reports and conduct variance analysis for project financials. Ensure strict adherence to financial policies, controls, and audit requirements. Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation.
- Handover to Operational Finance Team: Facilitate smooth financial transitions of projects from implementation to operational phases in coordination with the Financial Manager. Provide essential financial documentation and support to the operational teams.
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (e.g., BCom Accounting, BCom Finance).
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in an accounting or financial role.
- Proven experience in financial reporting and control.
- Exposure to finance processes and systems within a shared services or project environment would be highly advantageous.
- Prior experience in the retail or a similar industry is desirable.
- Studying towards or completion of a relevant professional qualification such as CIMA, ACCA, SAIPA, or SAICA would be a significant advantage.

- Proficiency in financial systems and ERP platforms; SAP experience is preferred.
- Strong analytical skills essential for financial modelling and reporting.

- Solid understanding of financial policies, compliance, and internal controls.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant financial reporting tools.
