Safety Officer (Underground Mining Certified)
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Safety Officer (Underground Mining Certified) to support and maintain the highest health and safety standards within an underground mining environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring compliance, conducting inspections, managing risk assessments, and promoting a strong culture of safety across all operational activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and enforce compliance with underground mining health and safety regulations.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, workplace audits, and hazard identification assessments.
- Perform risk assessments and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Facilitate toolbox talks, safety briefings, and awareness campaigns.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, and compile detailed reports.
- Ensure all personnel comply with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate safety records, reports, registers, and compliance documentation.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety management systems.
- Monitor contractor and employee adherence to mine safety policies and procedures.
- Assist management in achieving safety objectives and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in emergency preparedness activities, drills, and safety initiatives.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through coaching, training, and engagement with employees.
Requirements
- COMSOC 1 and COMSOC 2 qualifications or a relevant Occupational Health and Safety qualification.
- Underground Mining Safety Certification is essential.
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in underground mining safety operations.
- Valid Red Ticket or Medical Fitness Certificate for underground mining work.
- Strong knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and related mining regulations.
- SACPCMP registration will be advantageous.
- Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and compliance audits.
- Strong understanding of underground mining hazards and risk management practices.
Mandatory Certifications
- Valid Working at Heights Certificate.
- Valid Confined Space Certificate.
- Valid Power Tools Training Certificate.
