Job Overview

The Account Manager (Senior), Retention, Road Logistics is responsible for managing and growing relationships with key clients while ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and retention. This role focuses on strategic account management, consistent engagement, and delivering tailored logistics solutions that drive long-term partnerships and revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and grow a strong client base within the assigned region
  • Achieve monthly and annual retention and revenue targets
  • Act as the primary point of contact for key clients, ensuring seamless communication and service delivery
  • Analyze client performance metrics and sales data to identify growth opportunities
  • Proactively manage client KPIs and present performance insights to stakeholders
  • Collaborate with operations and finance teams to resolve service and billing issues
  • Handle customer queries, complaints, and discrepancies efficiently
  • Maintain accurate client records and interactions within the CRM system
  • Prepare and deliver reports on account performance and market trends
  • Identify risks within client accounts and implement mitigation strategies
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery
  • Support tender and proposal preparation, including presentations
  • Monitor competitor activity and provide industry insights
  • Ensure alignment across departments to deliver integrated solutions
  • Manage debtor days in line with company requirements
  • Represent the DSV brand professionally in all client engagements

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric (essential)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in key account management or retention within the logistics industry
  • Proven track record of managing and growing key accounts
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills
  • Ability to meet and exceed retention and revenue targets

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data and performance metrics
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills
  • Advanced problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities
  • Strong negotiation and business development skills
  • High level of attention to detail and administrative accuracy
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Sound business acumen and decision-making capability

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint (Intermediate)
  • Advanced computer skills are advantageous

Additional Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular client visits and maintain required call ratios
  • Ensure all client files and documentation comply with company procedures and quality standards
  • Support cross-functional collaboration to deliver integrated logistics solutions
  • Communicate new business implementations effectively to all stakeholders
  • Perform general administrative duties and reporting as required
  • Execute additional tasks as assigned by management
