Cashbuild is seeking a dedicated and experienced Forklift Driver to join our team in Pretoria. This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our store. Key Responsibilities
As a Forklift Driver, your primary responsibilities will include operating and maintaining the forklift in a safe and cost-effective manner. You will also be instrumental in providing comprehensive customer service, ensuring accurate stock merchandising, maintaining shelf price labelling, and upholding housekeeping standards within your designated area of responsibility.
A significant part of this role involves delivering exceptional customer service. This includes acknowledging all customers, identifying their needs, providing accurate product advice, and promptly addressing any queries or complaints. You will also be involved in add-on sales and ensuring that customer purchases are loaded efficiently and carefully to prevent damage to goods or vehicles. Furthermore, you will inform customers about additional services offered by Cashbuild, such as delivery services, glass cutting, credit programmes, and special orders. Maintaining product knowledge and being readily available in your designated aisle are essential.
In terms of merchandising, you will ensure that stock areas are organized safely and adhere to store layout plans and planograms. Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping is also vital; your area should be free of obstacles, stock should be merchandised promptly, and customers should be able to navigate the aisles safely. Correct shelf price labelling and timely completion of checklists for canteen and toilet/shower schedules are also expected.
You will be expected to adhere to the “Ready for Business” and “Beyond my Control” standards as per the Cashbuild Way. Loss prevention and security are also key. This involves identifying display gaps, investigating causes, and reporting concerns to management. You must also be vigilant about suspicious behaviour and report any concerns immediately. Crucially, no product will be loaded for a customer without proof of purchase or the required documentation.
Safety is paramount. You must ensure the forklift is not overloaded, and racking/shelving is not overloaded, adhering to specific stacking limits for items like roof tiles and bricks. Wearing a safety helmet and kidney belt when operating the forklift is mandatory. The forklift must never be used to lift personnel. Entrances and exits must be kept clear of obstacles to ensure customer safety. Any forklift faults must be reported immediately, and scheduled services must be attended to promptly. You are also required to wear protective clothing when necessary and must not operate the forklift if there are any mechanical faults. Daily forklift inspections, including checklist completion and fault reporting, are a fundamental part of this role.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 or a minimum of one (1) year of relevant work experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant language spoken in the Pretoria geographical area.
- Proficiency in performing basic calculations accurately.
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Must be physically fit to operate a forklift.
- Must possess a valid forklift license.
