About the Role
As a General Assistant, your primary responsibilities will include ensuring comprehensive customer service within the store, effectively merchandising stock, managing shelf price labelling, and maintaining high standards of housekeeping in your designated area.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Advising and assisting customers with product selection and queries.
- Helping to resolve customer complaints efficiently.
Merchandising Standards
- Ensuring the bulk stock area is merchandised safely and in line with the store’s layout plan.
- Maintaining your area of responsibility, ensuring it is fully merchandised according to store layout and planograms.
Housekeeping
- Keeping your assigned area free of obstacles, merchandising received stock promptly, and ensuring safe access for customers.
- Accurately labelling shelves with correct pricing within your area.
- Completing required checklists, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules, when on duty.
Safety (OHSA) Requirements
- Adhering to OHSA compliance, including the proper use of safety gear and ensuring the safety of both customers and staff within your area.
- Merchandising stock in racking and bulk areas to ensure safe movement for customers and colleagues within the store.
- Reporting any discrepancies or safety concerns to the Store Manager.
Manage Stock Loss
- Reporting any damaged stock within your area of responsibility to the Store Manager.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Grade 10 or NQF 3 qualification with at least 1 year of relevant work experience; OR
- A Grade 12 qualification with no prior related work experience.
- The ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language spoken in Newcastle.
- A valid South African ID or work permit.
- Proficiency in performing basic calculations accurately.
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- The ability to work effectively under pressure.
