Tyre Maintenance Controller

Value Logistics is seeking a dedicated and experienced Tyre Maintenance Controller to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial for ensuring the optimal performance and safety of our fleet through proactive tyre management.

Purpose of the Job

The primary function of the Tyre Maintenance Controller is to conduct routine tyre maintenance, manage tyre breakdowns, and perform tyre surveys across various sites for Value Logistics’ fleet of vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

Stock Management
  • Maintain strict security of tyre stock at all times.
  • Assist in investigating and reporting any stock discrepancies on a daily basis.
  • Support monthly cycle counting procedures.
Tyre Surveys and Maintenance
  • Travel to designated sites as required to perform duties.
  • Prioritise vehicle tyre surveys and maintenance based on the fleet list provided by your supervisor.
  • Conduct daily tyre surveys using the provided Intersect tyre management software, utilising manual documentation when the system is offline.
  • Ensure accurate data capture during tyre surveys, including brand numbers, wheel positions, tyre pressure, and tread depth readings.
  • Complete tyre surveys for all vehicles and ensure tyre pressures are maintained and corrected monthly.
  • Survey spare wheels and report any missing spare wheels to your supervisor.
  • Apply red paint to spare wheel rims for easy identification.
  • Verify that all wheel nuts are torqued correctly and fit wheel nut securing indicators.
  • Install wheel nut indicators where they are missing.
  • Photograph scrap tyres and submit these images to your supervisor.
  • Communicate with your supervisor regarding surveyed vehicles, identified tyre issues, outstanding survey tasks, and daily productivity.
Tyre Branding
  • Report any tyres lacking brand numbers to your supervisor.
  • Brand tyres according to the provided listing.
Tyre Replacement
  • Identify and replace smooth, punctured, or damaged tyres in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Accurately and promptly complete Tyre Change Slips.
  • Submit Tyre Change Slips to your supervisor daily.
Tyre Rotations
  • Ensure tyres are rotated based on matching tread patterns.
  • Accurately and promptly complete Tyre Change Slips.
  • Submit Tyre Change Slips to your supervisor daily.
Breakdown Support
  • Ensure the breakdown support vehicle is adequately stocked with the correct tyre sizes and quantities for a given breakdown.
  • Travel to sites and attend to tyre-related breakdowns promptly.
  • Handle breakdowns with priority and urgency, adhering to South African driving regulations.
  • Complete breakdown reports and Tyre Change Slips for all tyres removed and fitted.
  • Transport damaged or punctured tyres back to the depot and hand them over to your supervisor along with the corresponding change slips.
Company Equipment and Assets
  • Securely store tyre maintenance tablets when not in use and at the end of each shift.
  • Conduct daily vehicle checklists and submit them to your supervisor for filing.
  • Ensure vehicles are parked and locked when not in operation.
  • Hand over vehicle keys to your supervisor and ensure they are secured after every shift.
  • Report any vehicle accidents or damages to your supervisor immediately.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment in good working order.
  • Submit the tyre bay tool check list weekly to your Supervisor.
  • Report any defective tools to your Supervisor.
Housekeeping
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work area and company vehicle at all times.
Health & Safety
  • Prioritise your own health and safety and that of your colleagues.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and regulations.
  • Utilise the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Immediately report any health and safety issues or near misses to your supervisor.
General Duties
  • Adhere to all company procedures and policies, including SOPs, HR Policies, POPIA Policies, Dress Code, Smoking Policy, and Attendance.
  • Assist with other company requirements as needed.
  • Flexibility to work weekends may be required from time to time.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) qualification.
  • Valid Code B driver’s license.
  • 1-2 years of experience in heavy-duty tyre maintenance.
  • Physically capable of lifting heavy objects.
