Forklift Driver – Mthatha, Eastern Cape, South Africa
Cashbuild is seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Forklift Driver to join our team in Mthatha. In this role, you will be responsible for the efficient and safe operation of forklifts, ensuring excellent customer service, and maintaining high standards of merchandising and housekeeping within the store. Job Responsibilities
Customer Service:
- Greet and assist customers, identifying their needs and providing accurate product advice.
- Address customer queries and complaints promptly and effectively.
- Drive add-on sales by recommending complementary products.
- Ensure efficient loading of customer purchases, exercising care to prevent damage to goods or vehicles.
- Inform customers about additional services, including delivery, glass cutting, plan reading, credit programs, special orders, and more.
- Maintain certified product knowledge and be readily available in your assigned aisle.
Merchandising Standards:
- Organize bulk stock areas safely and according to store layout plans.
- Ensure your designated area is fully merchandised in line with store layouts and planograms.
Housekeeping:
- Maintain a clean and obstacle-free work area, ensuring stock is merchandised promptly after receipt.
- Ensure customers can navigate aisles without risk of injury or irritation.
- Accurately label shelves with prices within your area of responsibility.
- Complete required checklists, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules, when on duty.
Ready for Business:
- Adhere to the “Ready for Business” and “Beyond My Control” standards as outlined by the Cashbuild Way.
Loss Prevention and Security:
- Identify and report any display gaps and their potential causes to management.
- Observe and report any suspicious behaviour or individuals to management.
- Verify proof of purchase or required documentation before loading any product for a customer.
Safety (OHSA) Requirements:
- Operate the forklift responsibly, avoiding overloading the machine and racking/shelving (e.g., limit roof tiles/bricks and cement to two pallets high).
- Wear safety helmets and kidney belts at all times while operating the forklift.
- Do not use the forklift to lift personnel.
- Ensure entrances and exits are clear of obstacles, allowing customers safe access to and egress from the store.
- Immediately report any forklift faults or upcoming service requirements to management.
- Wear protective clothing as necessary.
- Do not operate the forklift if any mechanical faults are present.
- Conduct daily forklift inspections, complete checklists, and report any findings.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or a minimum of one year of relevant work experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language of Mthatha.
- Proficiency in performing basic calculations accurately.
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- Ability to perform duties effectively under pressure.
- Must be physically fit and capable of operating a forklift.
- Possession of a valid forklift license.
