Cashbuild is seeking a diligent and customer-focused Cashier to join our team in Bloemfontein, South Africa. This role is crucial for ensuring smooth Point of Sale (POS) operations and maintaining excellent customer satisfaction.

Role Overview

As a Cashier, you will be responsible for the accurate and efficient handling of all Point of Sale transactions and related documentation. A key aspect of this role is to ensure that all merchandise is paid for before leaving the store, safeguarding company assets.

Key Responsibilities

Cash Handling:

  • Maintain accuracy in balancing all allocated cash, including floats and petty cash, ensuring no shorts or overs.
  • Correctly identify and capture goods on the Point of Sale Terminal.
  • Accurately record all payment types received from customers.
  • Ensure sufficient change is available at all times.
  • Perform pick-ups accurately and within set parameters.
  • Conduct end-of-shift cash-ups with precision.
  • Safely deposit all daily takings into the designated Drop Safe or vault.
  • Process all transactions related to inter-store money, deliveries, and quotes correctly.

Administration:

  • Sign, compile, and meticulously file all documentation pertinent to the Cashier function.

Customer Service:

  • Provide fast, friendly, and efficient service to all Cashbuild customers during checkout.
  • Direct customers to the appropriate personnel for assistance when needed.
  • Adhere strictly to the company’s dress code.

Safety and Security:

  • Ensure compliance with Safety (OHSA) regulations, promoting safety for both customers and staff within your area of responsibility.
  • Report any discrepancies immediately to the Store Manager.
  • Uphold security protocols, including password control at the till point.
  • Ensure the safe keeping of cash and its transport to the cash office, following Cashbuild Way requirements.

Adherence to Company Standards:

  • Comply with “Ready for Business” and “Beyond My Control” standards as per the CB Way.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or a minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in English and the dominant language spoken in the Bloemfontein area.
  • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
  • Strong administration skills.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Capability to work effectively under pressure.
