We are seeking a diligent and customer-focused Cashier to join our team at Cashbuild in Cape Town. As a Cashier, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate transaction processing and exceptional customer service, directly contributing to a positive shopping experience for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

The primary focus of this role is the accurate handling of all Point of Sale (POS) transactions and associated documentation. You will be responsible for ensuring that no goods leave the store without being properly paid for.

Cash Handling:

  • Maintain accurate cash balances, including floats and petty cash, ensuring no shortages or overages.
  • Verify and accurately capture goods on the Point of Sale terminal.
  • Process customer payments using the correct payment types on the POS system.
  • Ensure sufficient change is available at all times.
  • Conduct accurate pick-ups and cash-ups at the end of each shift.
  • Ensure all daily takings are securely deposited into the drop safe or vault.
  • Correctly process all transactions related to other stores’ money, deliveries, and quotes.

Administration:

  • Compile, sign, and file all documentation related to cashier functions.

Customer Service:

  • Provide fast, friendly, and efficient service to all Cashbuild customers during checkout.
  • Direct customers to the appropriate personnel for assistance.
  • Adhere to the company’s dress code.

Safety and Security:

  • Ensure compliance with Safety (OHSA) regulations, prioritising the safety of customers and staff within your area of responsibility.
  • Report any discrepancies or safety concerns to the Store Manager immediately.
  • Adhere to security protocols, including system password control at the till point.
  • Ensure secure cash handling and transport to the cash office, following Cashbuild Way requirements.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 qualification or a minimum of one year of relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in English and the dominant language spoken in the geographical area.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
  • Strong administrative skills are essential.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure.
