Key Responsibilities
As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks, adhering strictly to Value Logistics job cards and manufacturer specifications. Your duties will include:
- Performing visual inspections and on-board diagnostics to identify issues.
- Reviewing workshop job cards for accuracy and understanding.
- Ensuring all repairs are completed within established flat rates.
- Responding to both scheduled and unscheduled breakdowns, during and outside of standard office hours.
- Completing and signing off on job cards upon completion of work.
- Accurately booking all parts used for a job, including engine oils and other consumables.
- Preparing operating equipment and gathering necessary parts for service bays.
- Conducting all maintenance services according to manufacturer specifications and the established maintenance schedule or computer system.
- Executing visual inspections, calibration work, and adjustments.
- Identifying deviations, irregularities, and unusual wear and tear, initiating additions to orders, and providing feedback to the Workshop Foreman.
- Resetting maintenance systems in accordance with internal processes and procedures.
- Resetting dismantled parts and preparing them for return to the supplier, especially those that can be reconditioned.
- Inspecting disassembled parts and replacing them with new or reconditioned components.
- Returning old or unusable parts and documenting all work performed.
- Comparing the current state of a vehicle with standard production configurations and evaluating its technical condition.
- Performing final checks on repaired vehicles using testing and measuring equipment to ensure repairs are complete and the vehicle is roadworthy and functionally reliable.
- Maintaining a high standard of professional conduct at all times.
- Assisting with relevant operational functions as required.
- Adhering to the company’s dress code as per Standard Operating Procedures.
- Maintaining housekeeping standards in your work area on a daily basis.
- Ensuring all Health and Safety standards are upheld.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:
- A Grade 12 (Matric) qualification.
- Trade-tested qualification as a commercial vehicle Diesel Technician.
