Value Logistics Vacancies – Diesel Mechanic
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for carrying out full maintenance and repair services on commercial vehicles in line with job card requirements. The role ensures high-quality workmanship, compliance with manufacturer standards, and timely resolution of vehicle breakdowns and service needs.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnostics and Repairs
- Perform visual inspections and onboard diagnostics during pre-diagnosis
- Review and verify workshop job cards for accuracy and understanding before commencing work
- Carry out repairs in accordance with approved flat-rate standards
- Attend to both scheduled services and emergency breakdowns during and after working hours
- Conduct maintenance services according to manufacturer specifications and service schedules
- Perform inspections, calibration work, and necessary adjustments on vehicles
- Identify faults, irregular wear, and deviations, and report findings to the Workshop Foreman
- Replace worn or damaged parts with new or reconditioned components
- Inspect dismantled parts and prepare them for return or reconditioning where applicable
- Ensure all parts used, including consumables such as engine oils, are correctly recorded on job cards
- Compare vehicle condition with standard specifications and assess overall technical status
- Conduct final quality checks using appropriate diagnostic and testing equipment to ensure roadworthiness
Work Management and Documentation
- Accurately complete and sign off job cards upon completion of work
- Prepare tools, equipment, and required parts before commencing tasks
- Reset maintenance systems in line with internal procedures
- Return and document all unused or faulty parts as per company process
- Maintain accurate records of all completed work
Workplace Standards and Compliance
- Maintain professional conduct at all times
- Adhere to company dress code and Standard Operating Procedures
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe
- Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety regulations and procedures
- Assist with other operational tasks as required
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Trade Tested Diesel Technician (Commercial Vehicles)
Skills and Competencies
- Strong technical ability in diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of diesel vehicles
- Ability to apply workshop procedures and maintain high-quality standards
- Understanding of customer usage patterns relevant to vehicle performance
- Ability to apply basic business principles within the workshop environment
- Strong awareness of workplace hazards and safety procedures
- Ability to follow Health and Safety standards under supervision
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to interact professionally with customers and team members
