Diesel Mechanic – Killarney, Western Cape

As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality maintenance and repair services on commercial vehicles, ensuring all work is completed according to job card instructions and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Duties

  • Perform visual inspections and on-board diagnostics during pre-diagnosis stages
  • Review and interpret workshop job cards to ensure accuracy and full understanding of tasks
  • Complete repairs within prescribed flat rate times
  • Respond to breakdowns during and after working hours when required
  • Ensure all completed work is properly signed off on job cards
  • Accurately record all parts and materials used, including consumables such as engine oils
  • Prepare tools, equipment, and required parts before commencing work
  • Carry out maintenance services in line with manufacturer specifications and schedules
  • Conduct inspections, calibrations, and necessary adjustments
  • Identify faults, irregularities, or excessive wear and report findings to the Workshop Foreman
  • Reset maintenance systems in accordance with company procedures
  • Handle dismantled components, arrange for reconditioning where applicable, and prepare returns to suppliers
  • Replace worn or damaged parts with new or reconditioned components
  • Return unusable parts and ensure proper documentation of all completed work
  • Assess vehicle condition against standard production specifications
  • Perform final quality checks using appropriate testing equipment to ensure roadworthiness and reliability
  • Maintain professional behavior and support additional operational tasks when required

Workplace Standards

  • Adhere to company dress code and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within the workshop environment
  • Follow all Health and Safety regulations and ensure compliance at all times

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Trade-tested Diesel Mechanic or Diesel Technician qualification in commercial vehicles

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to apply appropriate techniques to maintain a professional and efficient work environment
  • Basic understanding of customer usage patterns and their impact on vehicle performance
  • Knowledge of business principles relevant to workshop operations
  • Strong customer interaction skills within the scope of the role
  • Ability to identify workplace hazards and follow safety procedures under supervision
  • Understanding and application of Health and Safety standards within daily tasks
