Role Overview
As a General Assistant, you will be instrumental in providing comprehensive customer service, ensuring stock is accurately merchandised and priced, and maintaining high standards of housekeeping throughout your designated areas. This position requires a proactive approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Provide expert advice and assistance to customers regarding products and their queries.
- Help resolve customer complaints efficiently and courteously.
Merchandising Standards
- Ensure bulk stock areas are organised safely and align with the store’s layout plan.
- Maintain your area of responsibility, ensuring it is fully merchandised according to store layout and planograms.
Housekeeping
- Keep your assigned area free of obstacles.
- Merchandise stock promptly after receiving it.
- Ensure customers can navigate aisles safely and without hindrance.
- Maintain accurate shelf price labelling within your area.
- Complete required checklists, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules when on duty.
Safety (OHSA) Requirements
- Adhere to all Safety (OHSA) compliance regulations, including the proper use of safety gear and ensuring the safety of customers and staff.
- Ensure racking and bulk stock in your area are merchandised safely, allowing customers and colleagues to move around the store without risk.
- Report any safety discrepancies or concerns to the Store Manager immediately.
Stock Management
- Report any damaged stock within your area of responsibility to the Store Manager.
Requirements
To be considered for this General Assistant position, you will need:
- A minimum of Grade 10 or NQF Level 3, coupled with at least one year of relevant work experience; OR
- A Grade 12 certificate with no prior work experience.
- Proficiency in both English and the dominant language spoken in the Germiston area.
- A valid South African ID or work permit.
- The ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- The ability to perform effectively under pressure.
