Job Description
As a General Assistant, your primary responsibilities will include delivering comprehensive customer service within the store. You will be involved in the merchandising of stock, ensuring accurate shelf price labelling, and maintaining high standards of housekeeping within your designated area.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Advise and assist customers with product selection and inquiries.
- Support the resolution of customer complaints effectively.
Merchandising Standards
- Ensure bulk stock areas are merchandised safely and in accordance with the store’s layout plan.
- Maintain your area of responsibility, ensuring it is fully merchandised according to store layout and planograms.
Housekeeping
- Keep your assigned area free of obstacles.
- Merchandise stock promptly after receiving it, ensuring customer aisles are clear and safe.
- Implement correct shelf price labelling within your area.
- Complete required checklists, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules, when on duty.
Safety (OHSA) Requirements
- Adhere to OHSA compliance, including the use of safety gear and ensuring the safety of customers and staff within your area.
- Ensure racking and bulk stock are merchandised safely, allowing customers and colleagues to move freely within the store.
- Report any safety discrepancies to the Store Manager.
Stock Loss Management
- Report any damaged stock within your area of responsibility to the Store Manager.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- A minimum of Grade 10 or NQF 3, coupled with at least one year of relevant work experience, OR
- A Grade 12 qualification without prior related work experience.
- The ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language spoken in Mogwase.
- A valid South African ID or work permit.
- Proficiency in performing basic calculations accurately.
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- The ability to perform effectively under pressure.
