The Handyman is responsible for supporting building maintenance activities to ensure all systems, equipment, and facilities remain fully operational. This role involves fault finding, basic repairs, and general maintenance tasks to resolve issues efficiently within defined service level agreements. The position also supports installations, minor projects, and ensures adherence to safety and compliance standards, while maintaining accurate reporting and administrative records.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance and repair tasks across the facility
- Identify faults, analyze issues, and implement effective solutions
- Ensure all maintenance activities are completed within agreed timelines
- Support installations, equipment repairs, and office moves
Carpentry
- Repair cupboards, shelving, and furniture as required
- Install ceiling boards, cornices, door locks, and handles
- Hang picture frames, whiteboards, and related fittings
Painting
- Prepare and paint interior and exterior surfaces including walls, ceilings, doors, and window frames
- Perform touch-ups and maintenance painting as needed
- Maintain road markings, parking lines, and signage
- Paint garden furniture and external structures
Additional Maintenance Tasks
- Carry out tiling, welding, and carpet tile installations
- Install ceiling tiles and hang doors and door frames
- Interpret and work from technical drawings
- Perform general repair and maintenance duties as required
Project and Administrative Support
- Assist with small projects and maintenance-related work
- Maintain records, inspection reports, and general administrative documentation
- Report maintenance issues and escalate where necessary
- Ensure quality control standards are met for all completed work
- Organize tasks and manage work orders effectively
Health and Safety
- Follow all health and safety regulations and procedures
- Ensure safe use of tools and equipment, including power tools
- Maintain a safe working environment at all times
Preferred Skills
- Basic plumbing and waterproofing knowledge
- Experience with partitioning, RhinoLite, brickwork, and plastering

Education and Experience
- Matric certificate
- Valid driver’s license
- Relevant technical qualification (TVET or NSETA preferred)
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in building maintenance
