Role Description
As a General Assistant, your primary responsibility will be to ensure a consistently positive customer experience within the store. This includes maintaining high standards of merchandising, accurate shelf price labelling, and upholding excellent housekeeping within your designated area. You will be instrumental in keeping our store environment welcoming and efficiently organised for both customers and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Service Excellence: Proactively advise and assist customers with their product selection and any queries they may have. You will also play a key role in effectively resolving customer complaints.
- Merchandising Standards: Ensure all bulk stock is stored and merchandised safely, adhering strictly to the store’s layout plan. You will be responsible for maintaining your designated area, ensuring it is fully merchandised according to store layout and planograms.
- Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and safe working environment by ensuring your area is free of obstacles. Stock should be merchandised promptly after receipt, allowing customers to navigate aisles without risk of injury or irritation. Accurate shelf price labelling is also a crucial aspect of this responsibility. Furthermore, you will be required to complete daily checklists, including schedules for the canteen and toilet/shower facilities.
- Safety (OHSA) Compliance: Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requirements, including the proper use of safety gear and ensuring the safety of both customers and staff within your area of responsibility. This includes ensuring that racking and bulk stock are merchandised in a way that allows for safe movement within the store. Any discrepancies must be reported promptly to the Store Manager.
- Stock Loss Management: Report any damaged stock within your area of responsibility to the Store Manager immediately.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this General Assistant position, candidates must possess:
- A minimum of Grade 10 (NQF 3) with at least one year of relevant work experience, OR a Grade 12 qualification without prior related work experience.
- The ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language spoken in the Johannesburg area.
- A valid South African ID or work permit.
- Proficiency in performing basic calculations accurately.
- A willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- The capacity to work effectively under pressure.
