Phakisa Holdings Vacancies​ – Junior CNC Operator

A motivated and detail-oriented Junior CNC Operator is required to operate CNC machines and produce precision components according to engineering drawings and production specifications. The successful candidate will ensure smooth machine operation, maintain production flow, and uphold strict quality and safety standards throughout the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities

CNC Machine Operation

  • Operate CNC machines according to approved machining programs and production requirements
  • Ensure correct positioning of components in jaws or chuck devices before starting machine cycles
  • Maintain continuous workflow by ensuring steady supply of components to the machine
  • Ensure all machining operations are completed within approved cycle times

Operational Discipline and Safety

  • Follow correct operating procedures for assigned machines and work cells
  • Maintain full attention while machines are running at all times
  • Avoid distractions during machine operation
  • Ensure all safety devices are functional at the start and throughout each shift

Quality Responsibility

  • Ensure no machining begins without first-off approval and inspection sign-off after setup or reset
  • Understand and apply correct use of go and no-go gauges
  • Work with the Setter to verify initial components before full production begins
  • Take full responsibility for quality and quantity once production is in progress
  • Perform visual and gauge inspections on all components removed from the machine
  • Ensure only approved components are placed into crates
  • Inspect each layer of components in crates and complete hourly recon sheets
  • Report any quality deviations immediately to the Production Supervisor
  • Seek guidance from Setter or Supervisor when uncertain about measurements or processes

Machine Care and Housekeeping

  • Ensure lubrication and coolant systems are functioning properly before and during operation
  • Remove chips and shavings regularly to prevent machine issues
  • Clean machines and work areas at the end of each shift
  • Deburr and clean components before packaging

Reporting and Communication

  • Report worn parts, equipment issues, or abnormal machine behavior immediately
  • Escalate machine breakdowns or maintenance requirements without delay

Additional Information

  • Contract position (3 months)
  • Hourly rate: R72.85 per hour
