About the Program
Main Purpose of the Role
The Community Coordinator ensures the smooth daily operation of community activities. This role oversees all community-based work, tracks performance and targets, and manages routine reporting to support programme effectiveness.
Roles and Responsibilities
Outreach Supervision
- Deliver a full package of services to AGYW, their partners, and stakeholders through Health and Wellness Counsellors using micro-planning.
- Coordinate interventionists to cover all designated community sites effectively.
- Conduct regular service mapping exercises with interventionists to identify service gaps.
- Ensure safe spaces in the community consistently provide the My Journey Programme package of services.
- Hold regular team meetings with interventionists, including Health and Wellness Counsellors and Peer Educators, to review progress and address challenges.
- Monitor interventionists’ performance, providing guidance to ensure confidentiality, commitment, and high-quality service delivery.
- Supervise peer educators and other staff implementing community interventions.
- Address operational and performance issues with interventionists, escalating to the programme manager as needed.
- Collaborate with peer educators, counsellors, and linkage officers to ensure effective referrals and follow-ups.
- Support interventionists in mobilising AGYW for dignity and hygiene packs, identifying eligible participants.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor and support interventionists’ work.
Networking, Leadership, and Advocacy
- Liaise with paralegals, human rights actors, public health facilities, DSD, and SAPS for community engagement and sensitisation.
- Work with interventionists to mobilise AGYW on health awareness, HIV testing, and service utilisation.
- Represent the programme in relevant meetings and forums.
- Support district-level youth networks, including Y-Key Pops initiatives.
Programme Coordination
- Implement operational plans for designated sites in collaboration with the programme manager.
- Monitor stock of hygiene and dignity packs, ensuring timely and proactive distribution by interventionists.
- Identify gaps in services for AGYW and develop strategies with the programme manager to address them.
- Conduct size estimations, complete micro-planning tools, and contribute to research activities as required.
- Respond to internal and external enquiries regarding programme activities.
Reporting, Administration, and Facilitation
- Collect and verify weekly and monthly reports from peer educators.
- Consolidate data with support from data capturers and prepare monthly and quarterly reports for the M&E officer and programme manager.
- Perform administrative tasks to support programme operations.
Personal Development
- Participate in trainings, workshops, and learning sessions to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Stay informed on developments in HIV/AIDS, STIs, TB, youth programming, key populations, and human rights.
Organisational Responsibilities
- Attend meetings, briefings, debriefings, and staff sessions as required.
- Undertake additional responsibilities delegated by management.
- Represent the organisation professionally, upholding its values and principles.
- Act as a role model to promote positive behaviour and best practices among interventionists.
