Key Purpose

The Clinics Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering both Primary Health Care and Occupational Health Care services within onsite clinic environments, aligned to agreed operating hours. Primary care includes assessment and management of acute and chronic conditions at a primary level, with referrals for complex cases. Occupational health services focus on prevention, workplace safety, health monitoring, and supporting employee wellbeing within organisations.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Health Care Services

  • Conduct physical examinations and health assessments
  • Manage chronic disease monitoring and follow-up care
  • Treat acute primary healthcare conditions
  • Provide ergonomic screening and education
  • Conduct stress, burnout, and wellness assessments
  • Deliver weight management support and counselling
  • Administer flu and other relevant vaccinations
  • Provide family planning services, including education, pregnancy testing, HPV screening, and contraception
  • Dispense medication within legal scope and essential medicine guidelines
  • Administer emergency injectables and acute treatments
  • Conduct screening tests including Pap smears, HIV testing, pregnancy tests, urinalysis, blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and haemoglobin testing
  • Interpret basic blood results and perform phlebotomy where required
  • Coordinate patient referrals to GPs, specialists, or emergency care when necessary
  • Facilitate virtual consultations with General Practitioners
  • Ensure safe medication management, storage, ordering, and monitoring

Occupational Health Services

  • Conduct workplace hygiene and risk assessments
  • Manage injury-on-duty cases, reporting, and documentation
  • Support medical incapacity assessments and case management
  • Perform pre-employment, annual, and exit medical examinations
  • Conduct substance misuse screening
  • Perform audiometry, vision, and spirometry testing
  • Refer patients to Occupational Health Physicians when required
  • Maintain accurate electronic health records
  • Manage clinic bookings using practice management systems

Experience, Qualifications, and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing
  • Occupational Health qualification
  • Dispensing license (required)
  • Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and currently practicing
  • Minimum 6–12 months clinical experience
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams

Advantageous

  • Specialisation in Primary or Occupational Health Care
  • Experience in a clinic or occupational health setting
  • Counselling skills
  • Experience using practice management systems
