Role Overview

As a Trainee Manager, you will work closely with the Store Manager to protect and grow profitable market share in alignment with store, division, and company strategies. You will gain hands-on experience across all facets of store operations, from sales and customer service to stock management and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Management:
    • Assist in developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive Store Business Plan aligned with the overall Company strategy.
  • Grow and Protect Market Share:
    • Contribute to achieving market share growth targets and sales budgets by category.
    • Promote customer loyalty programs and manage the distribution of advertising materials.
    • Develop proactive action plans to defend market share against competitor activity.
  • Customer Service Excellence:
    • Support the implementation and monitoring of the Customer Service strategy.
    • Help maintain customer audit scores above 95% and ensure reliable customer delivery services.
    • Contribute to growing and maintaining the VIC client base and achieving transaction budgets.
    • Recommend range improvements and action customer feedback from surveys.
  • Asset Control (Stock):
    • Assist in managing and controlling shrinkage within the store.
    • Support inventory processes, including stock takes, stock movement control, end control, inter-branch transfers (IBTs), customer returns, and receiving.
    • Analyze security requirements and implement necessary changes.
    • Maintain physical security measures.
  • Asset Control (Cash):
    • Assist in managing debtors and returned cheques, petty cash, and daily banking.
    • Oversee shorts and overs, and manage cheque and credit card transactions.
  • Asset Control (Fixed Assets):
    • Support the maintenance and protection of racking, displays, signage (internal & external), forklifts, generators, IT equipment, telephone systems, and the safe.
  • Human Resource Management:
    • Assist with recruitment, induction, and ensuring training and development programs are in place.
    • Support succession planning and career pathing within the store.
    • Manage manpower requirements in line with divisional and store strategy.
    • Facilitate open communication and manage employee relations.
  • Store Safety (OHSA) Standards:
    • Ensure safety aspects comply with local legislation (OHSA) and/or neighboring countries’ legislation.
    • Oversee checklist completion, appointment of Safety Representatives, and incident reporting and recording.
  • Store Trading Standards:
    • Maintain high housekeeping standards, merchandising standards, and implement correct planograms.
    • Ensure the upkeep of yard and parking areas.
  • Profitability:
    • Contribute to achieving the operating income budget and managing the store according to the Financial Model, benchmarks, and budgets.
  • CB Way Compliance:
    • Assist in achieving audit benchmarks by monitoring adherence to Company standard compliance.
    • Implement and maintain controls and disciplines, and execute corrective action plans as needed.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 qualification.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of retail management experience.
  • A valid Driver’s License.
  • A valid ID or valid work permit.
  • Strong accounting skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Proficiency in basic computer literacy.
  • Strong leadership and administrative skills.
  • Must have own reliable transport and a cell phone.
  • Sound knowledge of Health and Safety aspects in line with OHSA and/or neighboring countries’ legislation.
  • Strong Human Resources skills.
