Board Cutting and Edging Supervisor

Cashbuild is seeking a diligent and experienced Board Cutting and Edging Supervisor to oversee operations at our Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, South Africa branch. This role is crucial for ensuring the quality, efficiency, and smooth execution of our board cutting and edging processes, directly impacting material utilization and customer satisfaction.

Role Overview

As the Board Cutting and Edging Supervisor, you will be responsible for monitoring all cutting and edging operations, ensuring they meet our high standards for quality and efficiency. You will supervise and coordinate the activities of your team, ensuring fabric is cut and edged precisely according to customer specifications, thereby minimising company losses. A key part of this role also involves overseeing the maintenance of all relevant machinery to ensure optimal performance and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Oversight: Monitor and manage cutting and edging operations for quality and smooth running.
  • Team Supervision: Supervise and coordinate workers engaged in cutting and edging fabric to meet customer specifications.
  • Waste Reduction: Implement strategies to minimise wastage and customer complaints through accurate calibration of machinery based on cutting lists.
  • Precision Cutting: Accurately read and interpret cutting lists to ensure precise fabrication.
  • Machinery Maintenance: Perform daily cleaning and preventative maintenance on all cutting and edging machinery.
  • Customer Service: Provide reliable and prompt customer service, advising customers correctly on products and assisting with any queries or complaints in a timely manner.
  • Team Scheduling: Ensure effective employee scheduling to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Operational Support: Assist in other departments as required.
  • Merchandising and Housekeeping: Ensure the work area is neatly packed, free of obstacles, and that stock is merchandised immediately upon receipt.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to OHSA regulations, including the use of safety gear and ensuring the safety of both customers and employees. Maintain compliance with machinery specifications and safety standards.
  • Security Awareness: Be aware of suspicious behaviour or individuals and report any concerns to management.
  • Transaction Verification: Ensure no product is loaded for a customer without proof of purchase or required documentation.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 or equivalent NQF 4 qualification.
  • A minimum of 2 years of carpentry experience would be advantageous.
  • 2 years of managerial or supervisory experience is desirable.
  • 1 year of experience working with cutting and edging machinery is advantageous.
  • Proven ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
  • Well-developed problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
